Amazon India is stepping into the quick delivery market with a bold new initiative. The e-commerce giant will introduce 15-minute deliveries in Bengaluru starting this December, aiming to cater to the rising demand for faster delivery services in India. This service will initially focus on high-demand items such as groceries and daily essentials.
The announcement was made during the Amazon Smbhav Summit in New Delhi, where Amazon India Country Manager Samir Kumar shared details of the project. The pilot program, internally known as “Amazon Tez,” is currently in its testing phase and is set to roll out in select Bengaluru neighborhoods. Once proven successful, the company plans to expand the service to other cities.
Competing with Quick Commerce Players
Amazon’s move is seen as a response to the growing dominance of quick-commerce startups like Blinkit, Zepto, and Swiggy Instamart, which have reshaped consumer habits by delivering items within minutes. By entering this space, Amazon hopes to strengthen its position in India’s competitive e-commerce market.
“Customers love the convenience of getting essentials delivered quickly without stepping out of their homes. Quick commerce is all about convenience, and we are bringing our own version to the market,” said Kumar.
Addressing Concerns of a Late Start
Despite entering the segment later than its competitors, Kumar expressed confidence in Amazon’s ability to succeed. He highlighted Amazon’s extensive product range, customer-first approach, and advanced use of artificial intelligence to optimize deliveries. “Our wide selection and innovative solutions will allow us to deliver better value and experience to customers,” he added.
Focus on Job Creation
Apart from enhancing customer experience, Amazon’s new initiative is also expected to boost job creation in India. The company has already announced plans to create 20 lakh jobs in the country by 2025, and the expansion of quick deliveries will contribute significantly to this goal.
What to Expect
The service, code-named “Amazon Tez,” will initially focus on Bengaluru, with deliveries of top-selling items within just 15 minutes. Amazon is expected to leverage its extensive logistics network and local partnerships to achieve this ambitious goal.
This development could intensify competition in the quick commerce sector, challenging existing players to improve their services and potentially reshaping the delivery landscape in India. Customers in Bengaluru can look forward to enjoying the benefits of ultra-fast deliveries before the year ends.
