Mahindra & Mahindra has decided to temporarily rebrand its newly launched electric SUV, originally named BE 6e, to BE 6 following a trademark dispute with IndiGo airlines. The car manufacturer announced this move to avoid unnecessary distractions while it prepares to contest IndiGo’s trademark claim in court.
The dispute arose after IndiGo objected to the use of the name BE 6e, arguing it could create confusion due to its similarity to the airline’s brand identity. Mahindra responded by renaming the vehicle temporarily but emphasized that the rebranding does not reflect any admission of wrongdoing. The company plans to pursue legal recourse to resolve the matter and defend its trademark rights.
Despite the temporary setback, Mahindra remains focused on its commitment to the electric vehicle market. The BE 6, part of Mahindra’s Born Electric lineup, showcases advanced technology and eco-friendly features, catering to the growing demand for sustainable mobility solutions in India. The company stated that this minor adjustment will not impact the vehicle’s launch timeline or features.
In addition to the rebranding news, Mahindra announced a price hike of up to 3% across its range of vehicles. This increase, effective soon, is due to rising input costs, including raw materials and production expenses. The decision reflects the challenges faced by automobile manufacturers amid inflationary pressures.
Mahindra continues to demonstrate resilience in addressing challenges while remaining committed to its customers and long-term goals. With its robust electric vehicle plans and focus on innovation, the company aims to maintain its leadership position in the competitive Indian automotive market
