TRAI Mandates ₹10 Recharge Option for Voice Calls and SMS, Validity Extended to 365 Days

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has taken a major step to benefit telecom customers by mandating a ₹10 recharge option for voice calls and SMS. This decision ensures affordable and accessible communication services for consumers across the country.

TRAI has instructed all telecom companies to offer a special ₹10 recharge voucher, enabling users to make calls and send SMS at minimal costs. Additionally, TRAI has directed operators to provide special tariff vouchers (STVs) specifically designed for voice and SMS services. These measures aim to cater to the needs of customers who prefer basic services without opting for expensive plans.

In another significant decision, TRAI has extended the validity period of these vouchers. Customers will now enjoy a validity of 365 days instead of the earlier limit of 90 days. This extended period offers more flexibility and convenience to users, particularly those in rural and economically weaker sections, who often face challenges in frequent recharges.

The move comes after TRAI observed growing concerns among consumers about the lack of affordable and short-term recharge options. By introducing these changes, TRAI aims to promote inclusivity in telecommunications and ensure that every individual, regardless of their financial capacity, can stay connected.

Telecom operators are expected to implement these changes promptly to comply with TRAI’s regulations. The authority has also advised companies to inform users about the availability of these new recharge options through proper communication channels.

This step is seen as a win for customers who rely on basic mobile services and prefer cost-effective solutions for their communication needs. The ₹10 recharge option and extended validity will likely provide relief to millions of users, making telecommunications more accessible and affordable.
