Airtel has taken a major step in tackling spam by using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to protect its customers from unwanted calls and SMS. In just two and a half months since its launch in late September, Airtel’s AI-driven spam filter has flagged 8 billion spam calls and 0.8 billion spam SMS. The company announced this achievement on Monday, highlighting its commitment to providing a safer communication experience.
The spam filter has identified nearly 1 million spammers every day on Airtel’s network, where 6% of all calls and 2% of all SMS have been marked as spam. During this period, Airtel notified around 252 million unique users about suspicious calls, reducing the number of customers responding to these calls by 12%.
Interestingly, the data revealed that 35% of spammers used landline telephones for making spam calls. Among the states, customers in Delhi received the highest number of spam calls, followed by Andhra Pradesh and Western Uttar Pradesh. Most of these calls originated from Delhi, Mumbai, and Karnataka.
When it comes to spam SMS, Gujarat emerged as the largest source, followed by Kolkata and Uttar Pradesh. However, customers in Mumbai, Chennai, and Gujarat were the most targeted by spam messages.
Airtel became the first telecom operator in India to launch an AI-powered spam filter for its network. By leveraging advanced technology, the company aims to reduce the nuisance of spam and improve customer satisfaction. The feature’s success in identifying spammers and alerting users highlights Airtel’s efforts to stay ahead in ensuring digital safety for its subscribers.
With this initiative, Airtel has set an example for the telecom industry to adopt smarter solutions for tackling spam and providing a better experience for its users.
