Meghalaya and Nagaland are a state in north-eastern India, and it has 60 assembly constituencies. These constituencies are distributed among eleven districts of the state, and each constituency is represented by one elected member in the Meghalaya and Nagaland Legislative Assembly.

The Meghalaya and Nagaland Legislative Assembly plays a crucial role in the governance of the state, and the elected members represent the aspirations and interests of their respective constituencies.

About 2018 election of Meghalaya

The 2018 Meghalaya Legislative Assembly election was held on February 27, 2018, to elect members of the 60 constituencies in the state. The results were declared on March 3, 2018.

The Indian National Congress (INC) emerged as the single largest party by winning 21 seats, but it fell short of the majority mark of 31 seats. The National People’s Party (NPP), led by Conrad Sangma, won 19 seats and formed a coalition government with the support of the United Democratic Party (UDP) (6 seats), People’s Democratic Front (PDF) (4 seats), Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) (2 seats) and an independent candidate (1 seat).

Conrad Sangma was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Meghalaya on March 6, 2018. He was the candidate from both the NPP and the UDP, and he won from both the seats he contested – South Tura and North Tura.

The voter turnout for the 2018 Meghalaya Legislative Assembly election was 74.62%. The election was peaceful, and there were no reports of any major incidents of violence or malpractice.

About 2018 election of Nagaland

The 2018 Nagaland Legislative Assembly election was held on February 27, 2018, to elect members of the 60 constituencies in the state. The results were declared on March 3, 2018.

The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), in alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), won 18 seats and formed the government with the support of an independent candidate. The Naga People’s Front (NPF), which had been in power in the state for the last 15 years, won 27 seats, but could not form the government.

Neiphiu Rio of the NDPP was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Nagaland on March 8, 2018. He contested and won from the Northern Angami-II constituency.

The voter turnout for the 2018 Nagaland Legislative Assembly election was 75.05%. The election was conducted peacefully, and there were no reports of any major incidents of violence or malpractice. However, there were some reports of electoral malpractices in some constituencies, which were subsequently investigated by the Election Commission.

News about 2023 election of Meghalaya and Nagaland

The election polling was held from 7am to 4 pm today by the voters at their respective polling booth. Nagaland turnout 81.94% voters and Meghalaya turnout 74.32% voters till 5Pm. The results of the votes will be announced on March 2.

In the 2018 legislative assembly elections, Meghalaya recorded a voter turnout of 74.62%, with a total of 18,82,376 voters casting their votes.

On the other hand, Nagaland recorded a voter turnout of 75.00% in the same elections, with a total of 11,89,264 voters casting their votes.

This year Voters saw a keen interest in voting by 81% in Nagaland and 74% in Meghalaya.
