People have known lyricist Javed Akhtar for his eloquence for a long time and also listen to him.
During his recent visit to Pakistan to attend a a festival organized in memory of renowned Urdu poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz, when he was asked a question regarding the relationship between the two countries, he answered it very bluntly.

He said that – “We (India) did big functions for Nusrat, big functions for Mehdi Hassan. There was no function of Lata Mangeshkar in your country (Pakistan).”
हमने (इंडिया ने) तो नुसरत के बड़े बड़े फंक्शन किये, मेहदी हसन के बड़े बड़े फंक्शन किये। आपके मुल्क (पाकिस्तान) में तो लता मंगेशकर का कोई फक्शन नहीं हुआ.
He didn’t just stop there, after that he also mentioned the 2007 Mumbai attack. He said, “We are the people of Bombay, we have seen how our city was attacked, they had neither come from Norway nor from Egypt. Those people are still roaming in your city (Pakistan)”.
“हम तो बम्बई के लोग हैं, हमने देखा हमारे शहर पर कैसे हमला हुआ था, वो लोग नॉर्वे से तो नहीं आये थे और न ही Egypt से आये थे. वो लोग आज भी आपके शहर (पाकिस्तान) में घूम रहे हैं “
